LESLIE JEAN WALKER
Leslie Jean Walker was the first of six children born in Chicago, Illinois on Christmas Eve 1946 to Jean Ann Owens
Walker and James Arthur Walker. After David, the fifth child, was born, the family
left Chicago and moved to Texas and finally Denver, Colorado where all of the Walker children were raised and educated through
their high school years. After graduating from East High School, Leslie entered
into Military Service with the US Army on September 13, 1965, during the Vietnam War era.
She served while stationed in the United States and other countries including Germany, until she completed her tour
of duty and was honorably discharged on August 26, 1968. After her discharge
Leslie moved to Tennessee to be near her Father and Step Mother, Wilma. Since
Leslie has always been very good with numbers, upon her return to civilian life, she held positions as a bookkeeper, payroll
administrator, accountant, bank teller and similar work. One of her last positions
was as a technician at Oakridge Nuclear Plant in Oakridge, Tennessee.
Those who knew Leslie might say she lent a rich texture to the lives she touched. She
was feisty, daring and had a certain intellectual curiosity about life and was interested in many things such as politics,
social issues, astronomy and other sciences. She also enjoyed arts, crafts puzzles
and word games. She used her crocheting skills to produce beautiful spreads and
throws. She was able to enjoy and appreciate the profound as well as the simple
things in life because she possessed a certain youthful quality and outlook on things.
Although she was a small woman most of her life, anyone who knew Leslie would agree that she had an enormous appetite
and a fond appreciation for food of every kind.
In recent years Leslie increasingly battled multiple physical challenges caused by her 25 year long struggle with diabetes
and thus her health continued to deteriorate. In February 2009 Leslie expressed
that she wanted “the LORD to save her soul” and later affirmed that she “…knew EXACTLY what she was
doing.” And so she made eternal peace with God prior to her death. In view of the pain, disappointments and sorrows that life on earth often brings,
we are thankful that Leslie is now home where all her physical pain, heart-aches and tears are wiped away, and where, above
all she is with the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lover of Her Soul, forever.
Leslie was preceded in death by her Father, Mother and youngest brother, Stevie. She leaves to mourn her step mother, Wilma,
two sisters, Phyllis and Leah; two brothers, James and David and extended family members and friends.
