JUANITA WILSON
1504 East Myrtle Ave. entered into rest on Saturday, August 23, 2008, at Johnson
City, Medical Center. She was born April 3, 1927 in Springfield, TN to the late
Tom and Viola Chapman.
Juanita was educated in the Robertson
County school system. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Beard’s Chapel Baptist Church in Springfield,
TN. She later became a member of Thankful Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN. She loved life and placed her faith in the loving
hands of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Juanita was preceded in death by a son,
Charles Turner; brothers Oscar Chapman, Mathew Chapman, MC Chapman, and Eural Chapman; sisters Farry Chapman and Claudine
Chapman.
She leaves to cherish her memories her
husband, Robert Wilson of Johnson City, TN; sons John Thomas Turner (Shayne) of Kaneohe, HI; Donnie Turner (Angela) of Indianapolis,
IN; James Turner (Dot) of Leesburg, VA; Phil Turner (Debi) of Frederick, MD; and Robert Wilson (Linda) of Oakland, MD; daughters
Betty Penn of Indianapolis, IN; Jeweldean Scharklet of Nashville, TN; and Vickie Osborne (Kennedy) of Conway, SC; sisters Earline Williams of Nashville, TN and Willie Mae Wynn of Indianapolis, IN; 20 grandchildren, 31

ALTA MAE RUDGERS McFARLAND
84, loving mother and friend, went home to be with the Lord on Monday,
August 18, 2008, after a lengthy illness. She died peacefully at her daughter’s home in Johnson City, TN. She was formerly of Hatboro,
PA, and Pavilion, NY.
Alta was born in Rochester,
NY, and was the daughter of the late Byron and Mae Rudgers of Pavilion, NY. In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank McFarland, two brothers, Earle and Charles Rudgers, and son-in-law, Dr. Philip Cooper.
During World War II,
she served as a driver for military staff in the US Army. In 1953, Alta received a nursing scholarship
and upon graduation pursued a nursing career of over 32 years, which included caring for the terminally ill.
In Hatboro, PA, she was a member of Lehman Memorial United
Methodist Church, served as chapter President of the Deborah Heart Hospital Association, and was a member of the Eastern
Star and White Shrine.
Alta is survived by two daughters, Victory Cooper, Johnson City, TN, and
Constance Liwen and her husband, Andrew, Alexandria, VA; three grandchildren,
Cynthia Liwen, Alexandria, VA, Whitney Hoss, Johnson City, TN, and Gregory Liwen, Kyle,
TX; three great-grandchildren, Angela and Philip Cooper, and Zade
Liwen; one sister Elizabeth (Betty)Norton, Pavilion, NY, sisters-in-law, Virginia Rudgers, Hilton, NY, and Catherine Rudgers,
Buffalo, NY; several nieces and nephews; and precious
friends.
SERVICES
A Celebration of Life service for Mrs. McFarland will be conducted on
Sunday, September 14, 2008 at 4 PM, in the Pavilion United Methodist Church,
Pavilion, NY. Rev. Nilla Owens will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the
Alzheimer’s Association or the P. D. Cooper Memorial Research Trust, 711 Montclair Drive, Johnson City, TN 37604.
This foundation, created by family and friends, supports research in Alzheimer’s, children’s diseases at
St. Jude’s Hospital, and university student research projects.
Alta will be missed by her family and friends and memories of her will live on in their hearts.

86, 1410 East Fairview Ave. entered into rest on Thursday, August 14,
2008 at her residence. She was a member of Church of Our Lord Jseus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Rollins, four sons, Cornelius
Rollins, John E. Rollins, James H. Rollins, and Sherman Rollins.
She leave to mourn her passing; three daughters, Mary Rollins, Mattie Rollins, and

HALLIE C. CHARLES
98, 604 Davis Street, Johnson City, TN, entered into rest on Friday, July 25, 2008 at her residence.
She was born in Castlewood, VA to Henry and Vatie Dickenson. She moved to Johnson City in 1927, shortly after married
Jacob Charles, becoming a loving wife and a devoted mother.
Hallie was a member of St. Paul A. M. E. Zion Church, she was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four
sisters, five brothers and a son-in-law.
Survivors include; two daughters, Marion (Charles) Williams, Adia (Charles) Ware, (John), one son, James T.
Charles, brothers and sisters, Robert Dickenson, Mildred (Dickenson) Jackson, Cecile (Dickenson) Henderson, sister-in-law,
Georgia Charles, Chassie Venable. Nine grandchildren, Dewitt, Jr., (Audrey), Tony (Christine) Adia-doll (Allan), Edna (Mark),
Jeff (Angela), Steven (Trish), Tanya, David (Jennie), Daniel & Pier rice, a host of great grandchildren, great, great,
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

THOMAS SHAYLOR WADE (TOM)
208 Belmont Street, was born November 04, 1934 to the late Lelia Wade in Castlewood, VA. He was called into eternal rest on
Thursday, July 03, 2008 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital of Elizabethon, TN.He was preceded in death by his mother Lelia Wade and
only brother Nathaniel Wade.
He leaves to cherish his memories- His wife, Jenora Wade of the home; four sons, Andrew Odem (Debbie) Atlanta, GA, William
Odem (Bodie) Bristol, TN , Dr. Carroll Odem (Dee) Chattanooga, TN, Thomas Wade Jr. (Vee) Eden, NC. Other special children
are Reverend Lester Lattany (Stephanie), Joyce Goines (Paul), Cerrone Foster, all of Jocy, TN, Reverend Perry Irby (Jackie),
Fayetteville, NC, Melvin Love (Tiffany) Nashville, TN.
Thomas Wade was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where
he served tirelessly as a church van driver; He helped start the Friendship brotherhood. Thomas Wade attended Douglass High
school in Bristol, VA. He served in the Army and was a POW in Korean War. Tom was retired from Science Hill School with 34
years of service. Also employed with Carver Recreations where he served for over 25 years. Thomas helped to start the Melvin
Stevens Scholarship Fund and was a member of the Prince Hall Masons- Elizabethton. Popa Wade as we so affectionately called
him was more than your average citizen. He was one who loved everyone he’d met and was known as the man who loved his
family and his fellowman.

will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Friendship Baptist Church, 522 West Main St. Rev. C. H. Charlton, Pastor. Burial
to follow at the V. A. National Cemetery,

G. ELNORA BRADY
G. Elnora "Mimi" Brady, 81, 1313 E. Watauga Ave., went to be with the
Lord on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, following a brief illness. She was a member of Thankful Baptist Church, where for many years
she directed the Children’s Choir, and served in the Adult Choir, as a Trustee, and the Consecration and Officers Wives
organizations. Mrs. Brady graduated Valedictorian of her class from Langston High School and attended North Carolina A &
T.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Welda Robertson; husband, Rev.
G. Walter Brady; and children, Charles, Mary, and Leroy Brady.
Survivors include daughters Ezell Brady (Charles) Richardson; Adrienne
Murray (William) Tarter; and Carole Celeste Brady; sons James Clarence, Jr.; Edwin Anthony (Sheila) Murray; and Bryon Keith
(Cynthia) and Donald Murray (Allison) Brady; several grand-
and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Heaven announces the arrival of Rev. Charles A. Lattany III into the eternal presence
of God. Rev. Lattany departed this earthly tabernacle on Friday August 1, 2008 at Walter Reed Medical
Hospital in Washington D.C. after a battle with liver cancer. Reverend Charles A. Lattany III is the youngest of
seven children born to Mrs. Catherine Drummond Lattany and the late Charles A. Lattany, Jr. of Brunswick, Georgia. He attended school
in the Glynn County Public School System and graduated from Glynn
Academy High School in 1981.
Reverend Lattany, a gifted and talented musician who thought it ungrateful not to use his musical talents for the Lord. This
desire and commitment to service kept him very busy. He has served as a musician and singer in the states of Georgia, California, Texas,
Maryland and Washington, DC
Reverend
Lattany’s secondary education includes an Associate of Arts Degree in Music from Victor Valley College, Victorville,
California; an Associate of Science Degree in Histopathology, Community College of the Air Force, Maxwell Air Force Base,
Alabama, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Care Management from Southern Illinois University, Bethesda Maryland Campus,
Carbondale, Illinois, a Master of Divinity Degree from the Howard University School of Divinity in May 2005. He was a Full
Time Student in the Doctor of Ministry Degree Program at the Howard University School of Divinity, emphasis: Understanding
Worship and Liturgy in the AME Church.

Lattany was actively involved in the service of God in through the church since the age of seven. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of nine and became member of the Grace
United Methodist Church
in Brunswick, GA (Pastor
William Ashley), he was later baptized and became a member of First African Missionary Baptist Church of Brunswick, GA (Pastor
Franklin B. McKinsey). He has served as Church musician and Choir Member, in the following cities: Brunswick,
GA, Victorville, CA (First Missionary Baptist
Church), (Victor Valley Community Choir), (City of Victorville
Community Choir) (George Air Force Base), San Antonio and Wichita Falls, TX. Rev. Lattany was an active
member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America and the Washington DC Federation of Musicians. Rev. Lattany has served several
Churches faithfully in the Metropolitan DC area since 1987: Brookland Union Baptist Church,
Mount Moriah Baptist
Church, and Andrews Air Force Gospel service in Maryland,
First Baptist Church,
Georgetown and Hemingway Memorial
A.M.E. Church, District Heights, MD (Minister of Music). He also served as a Director and Musician for the Washington Conference Choir of the 2nd Episcopal
District of the A.M.E. Church. He also served as the Representative to the Connectional Music Committee of the A.M.E. Church from
the 2nd Episcopal District.
Reverend Lattany moved to the Washington, D.C Area in 1986 and has served several congregations in
a number of musical roles. Rev. Lattany accepted his calling to the Ordained Ministry on Easter Sunday, April 23, 2000; he
was licensed by Presiding Elder Rev. Dr. Goodwin Douglas. He was ordained an Itinerate Deacon in April of 2003 by Bishop Vinton
Anderson and ordained an Itinerate Elder in April 2005 by Bishop Adam J. Richardson. Currently, he served as the Associate
Director of Worship and Liturgy and the Minister of Music at Hemingway Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church, District Heights, Maryland, under the
leadership of Pastors, Rev. Dr. William Robert Porter (Retired); and Reverend Samuel E. Hayward III. (Current).
Rev. Lattany served as the Worship Leader/Liturgist for
the Music and Christian Arts Ministry (MCAM) of the AME Church. In November of 2005, he was appointed
Director of Music and Christians Arts Ministry for the Capitol District by Presiding Elder Goodwin Douglas.
Reverend Lattany’s favorite scripture passage was Psalm 34: 1-3:
I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord:
the humble shall here thereof and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.
Reverend Lattany was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Charles A. Lattany, Jr., Paternal
Grandparents, Charles A. Sr. and Mary Israel Lattany, Maternal Grandparents, Laurie Sr. & Edith Smith Drummond, Loving
Cousin and adopted Grandmother, Cornelia Smith Collier, Other loving Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and Friends.
